The Carnival Tale

About This Project

Project

The Barranquilla Carnival is the most important popular festival in Colombia and the second of its kind in Latin America, after the Rio de Janeiro Carnival. The folkloric and cultural event, declared a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, opened its own museum in 2020, mixing technology and tradition to generate a sensory experience that expresses the richness of the festival, beyond the four annual days of celebration.

One of the main pieces of the museum is The Carnival Tale, a film-essay that navigates between fiction and documentary, cinematics and theatricality, poetry and narrative, intimacy and collectivity, with no intention of explaining the inexplicable, but rather of transmitting the transmissible: the exuberance of a unique and unrepeatable festivity.
